I’d had my first taste of being fit and wanted to test my limits, to not just be reasonably fit but to be strong and athletic for the first time in my life. And, frankly, it scared the s*** out of me!
Chris does not consider herself a natural athlete. Growing up she rode horses and did a little bit of running but nothing truly competitive. In 2007 Chris began a Relentless bootcamp wearing a brace on each knee and barely able to do push ups. By the Spring of 2009 she was way beyond being gassed by the warm up and ready for a new challenge. Intimidate, yet determined, Chris joined an indoor class, taking on barbell movements for the first time in her life.
Chris’s dedication and determination to succeed led to tremendous changes. In 2009 having transformed herself and her life she was recognized as an Empowerment Story. At that time she had begun to experience life as an athlete and enjoying the rewards of her hard work. Today, three years later, at the age of 48, Chris is not even close to slowing down.
“Physically, I’m not the same person I was when I started at CrossFit Central – I’m not even the same person I was a year ago. Last year I weighed 130 with 20% body fat. I’ve seen huge changes, especially in the last 12 months since I added three sessions of personal training each week to my three days of classes at CrossFit Central. As I’ve spent more time lifting weight and increasing the volume and intensity of my training, I’ve gained muscle and am the leanest I’ve ever been. I am between 127-130 at 17% body fat and I actually have shoulders and lats for the first time in my life!”

“Mentally, CrossFit has taught me how much I limit myself when I let fear and negative self-talk into my head – and, conversely, how powerful I am when I trust myself and believe that what I want to do is already done. Each challenging WOD taught me to DECIDE to do a thing and do it – like jumping over a box or snatching weight my overhead.
I’ve learned patience! Things like strength and speed aren’t built overnight but CAN be improved and that rest, mobility, sleep and nutrition play as big of a role in my development as an athlete as what I do on the gym floor. This is all a work-in-progress and I must enjoy the game.
Now more than ever, I am willing to take risks, to think big about what I want in my life, and to believe that I’m capable of more than I ever thought possible – because, really, when I think of what I could do when I started at CrossFit Central, I would have never believed that there would come a day when I could do a strict pull up or deadlift 250 pounds.”
