Five Questions with Amy Thiel

What do you love about CrossFit?

I love CrossFit for the very definition of what it is- Constantly varied, functional movement, performed at high intensity. It’s always available anywhere to engage the the whole person. The scope is so broad and pervasive that it covers all life’s movement and yet so specialized when considering technique needed to excel in the sport. CrossFit is always interesting, always a challenge, always requiring your best effort either mentally, physically, or emotionally on your best days and your worst. Then you get to share this with a community. One not only asking of themselves for their best but also the best of you!

Favorite CrossFit movement and/or workout?

My fave is a chipper. They can be difficult and you really have to put your head down, grind it out, and “chip” away at each movement before moving on to the next. Sometimes you get stopped, but then you suck it up and carry on.

Favorite go to meal?

Variation is key for me, always strong on the protein and fats, minimal on the carbs. Lately, I top a salad with seasoned ground bison and shredded veggies, a mix of brussels, cabbage, or kale. Breakfast is lettuce wraps with turkey and half an avocado.

Favorite thing to do when you’re not coaching/working?

Without a doubt, family time is tops on the list. I also like a night out on the town dancing with friends.

Book: Out of Africa by Isak Dinesen

Movie: Gladiator or maybe it’s a Legend of the Falls or Silence of the Lambs
