Coffee After 3pm, good move or bad?

We’ve all experienced the afternoon tiredness creep in a time or two. The mental fatigue that sets in can make it difficult to focus, difficult to become motivated to initiate the next task, and difficult to know what you actually need for that extra boost of energy your looking for.

This is when we’re likely to find ourselves reaching for coffee, or sugar. Engaging in habits that we know aren’t necessarily going to help us reach our health goals. But we have to get through the day somehow, right?

Caffeine past noon is definitely a no-go. Even if you feel like it doesn’t effect your sleep, it does. Caffeine doesn’t completely clear your bloodstream for about 10 hours, so whether you feel it, or not, it’s affecting your ability to reach “deep sleep” (the most important part of the sleep cycle). This habit creates a cyclic effect on your energy, affecting your sleep & having you reach for the caffeine more often.

We know sleep is the #1 factor in your health, longevity, energy, and vitality. So ideally, lets optimize our sleep by laying off the caffeine in the afternoon. Instead, try replacing that afternoon cup of coffee with a 15 minute walk outside, deep breathing exercises, or 20 air squats & 20 push-ups!
