JAY
I initially joined CrossFit Central when we moved to Austin in January of 2019. My CrossFit journey, though, began back in February of 2014, right before I turned 40. I was one year into being a stay-at-home dad with our newborn son, and my fitness had really suffered. I’ve always been active, and for the previous 20 years I had mostly pursued outdoor sports (trail running, mountain biking, kayaking, climbing, etc.). I had never trained in a gym, much less picked up a barbell. I was familiar with CrossFit from the health/wellness worlds I kept up with, and I decided to give it a try.
Over the next several years, my body transformed. I shed fat and gained muscle. I became the strongest, fastest, and most mobile I had ever been in my life. I learned new movements. I stretched my physical exertion boundaries in ways humans have evolved to experience but rarely get to practice in the modern world. My transformation into the best physical version of myself was directly correlated to increased confidence and empowerment throughout my daily life. I have more patience, more clarity, and more focus. I’m a better dad and husband.
The reasons I keep coming back to CrossFit Central are for the coaching, community, and programming. Even at 48, I love being coached. I love learning new things and better movement patterns. The coaching staff at CrossFit Central is among the best I’ve ever had. They love what they do, and really care about each of the members’ health journeys.
The community at CrossFit Central is the best ever. It’s a great mix of young and old, longtime locals and recent transplants. We are all trying to be the best versions of ourselves, and the encouragement and motivation you get from everyone in the class is invaluable.
I feel Jeremy has really hit his stride with the programming. Nine years into CrossFit, I continue to match my existing or set new PR’s. I continue to add new skills and refine existing movements. And I have fun every single day.
