I joined CrossFit Central in September of 2022. I had stopped working out regularly and wanted to do an activity that was challenging and even daunting as a means to help me get more focused.
CrossFit was outside of my workout comfort zone. I had never done any serious weight lifting and couldn’t do hand stands, box jumps, etc. But CrossFit Central came highly recommended and I needed a personal challenge. I approached the gym by combining personal training with classes. The personal training continues to be a key component in helping me learn and master various weight lifting and other techniques. For the first time in 58 years I feel I have much more body awareness and strength.
Before joining CrossFit Central I was languishing. I lacked a clear focus on what I wanted to do and was searching for a meaningful challenge to get me engaged. Work had lost its sense of fulfillment and I had let my fitness slide. CrossFit was a good mix of a good gym and good trainers coupled with a fitness regime that would put me slightly outside of my comfort zone. The right first step in getting re-engaged.
Since joining CrossFit Central there have been several physical accomplishments including one I thought I never believed I could do — being able to get into and hold a tripod pose and then go further and move that into a headstand. Doing a headstand for the first time in my life at age 58 was a high point in my journey so far. Thanks to my personal trainer Amy for working with me on this and to the encouragement many of the other members have given me.
Within the first six months I lost more than 8 pounds of fat and gained several pounds of muscle. And several friends have mentioned that I look like I have lost weight. Overall my strength and mobility has improved along with my overall body awareness.
Going to the gym has gone from a must do, to a want to do activity — in part from the classes and in part from the community that the classes and members have created at the gym. A community that encourages everyone to continue to improve and celebrates everyone’s accomplishments over time.
It’s the community of smart, energetic, positive, and supportive classmates that keeps me coming back and will continue to keep me going on my fitness journey.
